Ting Huyan (Anita)

She works as both a dramaturg and performer in WhichWitch.

While performances are co-developed within the collective, she sometimes takes on the role of director.

in a nutshell:

Born in 2000 and based in China, Ting Huyan (Anita) is a dramaturg, director, performer, writer, and facilitator. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Central Academy of Drama (China). Alongside her work in the professional theatre scene in China, she focuses on long-term socially engaged theatre projects with marginalized communities, including rural-to-urban migrant women workers, queer communities, and vocational school students impacted by structural educational inequality.

From a feminist perspective, she approaches theater as a space for collective care and resistance, exploring themes such as gendered labor, undervalued care work, and social inequity, and employing care-oriented methods throughout the creative process. In 2024, she co-founded WhichWitch, a feminist theater collective by four Generation Z artists in Chengdu.

She was selected for the ITI Academy Week Fellowship at Theater der Welt 2026 in Germany.
